Dr Andrew E. Ekpenyong

Associate Professor of Physics. BPhil (Rome), BD (Rome), MS (Physics, Creighton, USA), PhD (Physics, Cambridge, UK)

About

Dr Andrew E. Ekpenyong is a professor of physics at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, USA. He is also a Catholic priest active in ministry at St Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Omaha, USA.

Training in Physics and Medical Physics: Dr Ekpenyong earned a master's degree in Physics in 2007 from Creighton University, Omaha, USA. He earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 2012. From 2012 to 2014, he worked as a postdoctoral scientist at Technical University, Dresden, Germany.

Lecturing: He currently teaches Nuclear Instruments and  Methods, Quantum Mechanics, Physics of Radiation Therapy, Dosimetry and Radiation Protection, Radiation Biophysics, as well as General Physics in Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

Research: He has supervised research and taught both graduates and undergraduates at Technical University, Dresden, Germany and Creighton University, USA. His main research expertise include cell mechanics, physics of cancer, nanoparticle-mediated radiotherapy (NPRT), radio-immunotherapy, brain cancers, microfluidics, microgravity and space radiation.

Scholarly Works: Dr Ekpenyong has authored/co-authored several articles in peer-reviewed journals in physics and medical physics. His research has ranged from the physics of cancer (a new frontier bordering on the mechanical properties of cancer cells and their role in cancer disease and metastasis) to the physics of radiation therapy. His most recent textbook, his 7th, is titled "Mathematical physics for Nuclear Experiments", published by Francis & Taylor, Routleledge and CRC Press.

Service to Humanity: Dr Andrew Ekpenyong founded and runs the Joseph Ukpo Hospitals and Research Institutes (JUHRI), which provide 100% free and high quality healthcare to all patients. The hospitals are sited in rural areas of South-South Nigeria where poverty is endemic.

Some International Awards. Dr Ekpenyong attended the University of Cambridge for his PhD, as a Cambridge Commonwealth Scholar, a prestigious and competitive international award managed by the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust. The scholarship offered substantial bursary for his PhD. He was also a Duke of Edinburgh Scholar, at St Edmund's College, Cambridge.
